Entrepreneurs can bid for £1,000 to get their business off the ground, in a cash-reward scheme from Shell. The LiveWIRE programme awards a monthly prize of £1,000 to 16 to 30-year-olds looking to turn their company idea into a reality. Shell has made £70,000 available to be awarded this year, equating to £60,000 in monthly prizes and £10,000 for the winner of its annual Young Entrepreneur of the Year contest. The scheme, which is run in 20 countries, has also recently revamped its website to allow fellow entrepreneurs to contact each other and help build up their business. LiveWIRE also offers workshops for entrepreneurs, giving them advice on how to run a company.

The Prince's Trust Business Programme provides money and support to help people start up in business. The Business Programme is for people who are:

aged 18-30
  • unemployed or working less than 16 hours a week
  • living in England, Wales or Northern Ireland

  • Ongoing advice from a business mentor

Development Awards
Development Awards are grants for under 25's from £50 to £500. They can be used to either help you get into education, training or employment, or volunteer support to help set goals, make decisions and find other programmes or support
Development Awards cannot be used to pay for NVQ, level 4, HNC, HND, degree, post graduate courses or courses of an equivalent level for a gap year or by a group or organisation.
